Matt Minick, owner/agent for the State Farm Insurance branch in Elwood, is a strong advocate for life insurance, but not simply because life insurance is one of the products he sells. Rather, it’s because he’s seen the comfort life insurance provides people in their times of loss, as well as the hardships facing those who lack it.
“It’s been eye-opening to me,” Minick said. “My job is to protect people, and I tell my clients that life insurance shouldn’t wait. You just never know when you’re going to need it.”
State Farm has had a presence in Elwood since 1922. And like a good neighbor, it’s been there for 94 years, helping the community meet its automobile, homeowner, health and life insurance needs, as well as providing banking services (savings and checking accounts, loans, etc), annuities, and mutual funds.
Matt took over State Farm’s Elwood branch office in January 2016. Since then, he has embedded himself in the community, making his mark while making friends. He shares the office with four employees: Diane Wheeler, customer service manager, who’s been with the local State Farm branch for more than 30 years; Brooke McNutt, multi-line rep; Courtney Reel, property and casualty rep; and Lindsay Kaiser, account rep.
Matt is proud of his association with State Farm. As he points out, the company is ranked 35th on the 2015 Fortune 500, offers almost 100 products, has 83.3 million policies and accounts in force in the U.S., and is No. 1 in auto, homeowners, and life insurance.
Matt is a true believer in State Farm’s mission statement – “To help people manage the risk of everyday life, recover from the unexpected, and realize their dreams.” However, he also practices his personal mission – “To protect you first, and help you invest second.”
Everyone is welcome to stop by the office to say hello and check out the new digs. “The office had been the same for decades,” he said, “so in December, we started from scratch, threw everything out and started fresh. We’re proud of it.”
