The Perfect Petal’s owner/operator, Kathy Deavers, has a passion for arranging flowers and has been doing it for years. When she finally decided to make her passion a commercial business this past September, she did so not only because she loves what she does, but she also did it as a sort of tribute to her mom and dad.

“I was making arrangements as gifts for family members,” Kathy said, “and my parents encouraged me to open a flower shop so others could enjoy my arrangements. They thought I had talent and should share it. So I did it in memory of my mom and dad.”

Kathy also credits her husband for urging her to pursue her passion.

“Gary and I have been married 46 years,” she said, “and he has given me his full support and encouraged me to follow my heart and dreams.”

Kathy has lived her entire life in Elwood and enjoys serving her community. She offers floral arrangements (silk and real flowers), live planters, memorial saddles and vases for all seasons, funeral flowers you take home, sympathy pillows, balloons for all occasions, stuffed animals and other gift products at a price she thinks Elwood people will like.

While her business has been open for only three months, Kathy is hopeful it will become the one her Elwood friends and neighbors turn to first whenever they need a floral arrangement.

“I love making arrangements and keeping my prices down to fit with Elwood people’s budgets,” she said. “It’s my dream to provide that.”

Currently, the Perfect Petal is offering 20% off all its fall items, which include arrangements and door wreaths.

“I want Elwood people to remember us as a cozy little flower shop,” she said.

The cozy Perfect Petal shop is located at 400 North C Street, and is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays. You can reach Kathy at either 552-0981 or 623-2617.
